BORKEN!
I know it's a typo, but that's what Rich and I say in a Strongbad-esque voice when something doesn't work. And that's exactly the case with my laptop. After discovering that kittens like to bit and step on things you don't want them to bite or step on, I decided storing my lappy on a shelf would be a good idea. Of course, there was no room on the shelf so I had to balance it across a box on the shelf. I made sure to be extra-careful about making sure it was balanced so it wouldn't fall off, but one day Rich set my computer to rest in it's usual spot and I came back from work to find it missing. Not on the shelf. Not on the couch. Not on the stepstool-turned-end-table. It was actually open and sitting like a tent behind the stepstool. Still plugged in. Still a little green light to indicate it was fully charged. I figured Rich had left it there (for no good reason). I picked it up (having to unplug it in the process) and found that it wouldn't turn on. Once I plugged it back in, the plug wouldn't light up. My compy was dead. We rushed to the nearest Apple store (about an hour and a half away) in hopes that they'd show mercy. The guy there looked at it and the diagnosis was not pretty. Something about some little board that was easy to replace must have messed up my logic board - that's my motherboard. And my warranty ended a few months ago. He then proceeded to praise the beautiful condition my computer is in (having been taken in for repairs just before my warranty expired) and listed how much each part could go for on eBay. Not really what I was wanting to hear, but it was comforting to know I'd get around $1500 when repairs would cost over $1000 and I could get another (non-laptop) computer that I would like (not love, but like) for $500. Regardless, it's broken. Which means I only check my GMail daily - and other e-mail weekly, and everything else much less frequently. We're going to take it into some Mac guy to get a second opinion, but it's not looking pretty. At least my hard drive is intact. But how will we watch DVDs without an S-video out?
